My primary focus is to create community disaster readiness by establishing systems of mutual aid, resources and services that foster self-reliance and self-determination at the local level. Areas of focus include
- lifeline services such as utilities (energy & water & sanitation), food supply, housing and transportation
- decision-making & governance systems
- local economies, currencies, barter & exchange systems
This can be viewed as emergency preparedness for the instability and eventual collapse of the large, centralized public and private systems upon which we have grown to depend upon. More than that however it is the reconstitution of human habitat to be more local and humane as well as respectful of, and in harmony with, nature.
Professional backgrounds in: energy efficient buildings; disaster readiness; villagization; farming; appropriate technology; telecomputing; construction; cooperatives; intentional communities and ecovillages. I have an MS in Biomimicry, and a BA in Environmental Studies & Planning.
