I have been an Experienced Beginner since I left my job as Director Health and Well-being at the European Commission in 2018. My professional background focused mainly in supporting people within the organization through counselling (I created and led for many years the European Commission’s Career Counselling Service), Internal Consultancy on people and organisational issues, dissemination of innovative concepts and good HR practices and policy design. The mainstreaming of Mindfulness and Volunteering were two of my two most appreciated contributions.
Since my retirement, I have worked with the Spanish hub of the Transition Network and have facilitated and participated in a large number of events and retreats (including the Cumbria retreat with Jem and Katie in September 2019) which have deepened my understanding of the roots of our disconnection with the ourselves, the others and the Land. Currently, I see my role as that of a bridge between different worlds. I am at ease in a meeting with top Civil servants and in a circle around a fire in the woods. I feel a calling to raise the level of awareness about our predicament and provide emotional guide and support that inspire people to engage in life-sustaining roles. I do this mainly using the Work that Reconnects (WTR) practice.
My work as a facilitator of the WTR is directly related to DA as it prompts to an exploration of the lenses through which we see and understand what is happening in our world. Joanna Macy, the root teacher of the WTR, has come to recognize that the Great Turning (the story about the emergence of new and creative human responses to transition towards a Life-Sustaining Society) could not forestall the Unravelling and collapse of our systems and needs to be seen now as a process and commitment to help us survive the breakdown of our civilisation. In this sense, I have been integrating in the WTR workshops that I facilitate the DA assumptions and practices, including the 4Rs (as a tool for exploring the Going Forth phase).
My sources of inspiration cover a wide range including Joanna Macy, Satish Kumar, Bill Plotkin, David Abram, Carolyn Baker, Jem Bendell (what else!), Meredith Little, Jorge Riechmann, ….
