Definitions and practices of meditation vary widely, across cultures and traditions.
Meditation can be the exercise of stillness, training and using focus and attention to observe and quieten the emotions and the ‘discursive’ mind, to achieve clarity, higher (non-egoic) awareness and/or spiritual insight and growth. In some traditions it is used as part of a path towards self-realisation and enlightenment.
Meditation can also be the practise of deeper thinking or contemplation upon aspects of internal/external reality.
Group meditation is said to enhance the practise and can bring about enhanced alignment and synergy, which may be directed towards beneficial outcomes such as personal healing or world peace.
Guided meditation is the practise of using language, music, sound, images and/or imagination to produce desired effects, such as relaxation, creativity, insight or healing.
Meditation is often associated with the practise of Mindfulness.
Meditation and meditative or contemplative practices can bring many benefits at a time when greater functioning and insight are essential. A guide listed as offering meditation should have a brief explanation of their meditation practise on their profile and will be happy to answer any questions you have about it.
